CARIBBEAN YOUTH
FEST AT PROSPECT PARK
On Saturday,
September 13, 2008 from 10 A.M to 5 p.m., Nethermead,
Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York will be alive with
sounds of the Caribbean at the Brooklyn Caribbean Youth
Fest. This family-affair is full with expressions of various
ethnic influences in music, dance, poetry and food. It is
colorful and energetic; a real hearty offering and an
opportunity to experience the cultural aspects that create
the dynamics of Caribbean lifestyle without leaving New
York. If you miss it, you are missing a major NYC Caribbean
event that is soaked in strong regional accents and rich
rhythmic cadence.
The 2008 event
marks the 4th installation and the organizers are once again
inviting all of NYC to come enjoy the array of performances
as well as contribute to the preservation of Caribbean
culture.
The inaugural
Brooklyn Caribbean Youth Fest titled ‘Heritage is Timeless’
was launched, Saturday, September 17, 2005 by Maxine
Hamilton-Alexander and a team of dedicated volunteers.
Without a stage and with true Caribbean spirit, artists
performed on the grass and the event was a success story.
Alexander hopes, as
Brooklyn continues to thrive as a great tourist destination,
with this new inflow of tourists, the Caribbean community
can also be a part of this growth with Brooklyn Caribbean
Youth Fest becoming an attraction on their calendar of
events. This year will also see the implementation of a
Youth Table Tennis Tournament.
