CARIBBEAN AFFAIRS Amir Abdullah
Mohammed Abdul-Akbar passed on
Amir Abdul-Akbar,
widely and affectionately known as ‘Akbar’, the Executive
Director of the Caribbean American Program for Empowerment,
(CAPE, USA), transitioned tonight at 9:04 pm, August 21st,
2008, after a short battle with cancer.
Akbar’s tremendous
and far reaching work in the community, nationally and
internationally, has and will continue to impact lives for
years to come. Akbar was Muslim and made it perfectly clear
that he was Muslim, CAPE was not. And through CAPE, he
helped, assisted and empowered thousands of people, here in
the United States and in several other countries around the
world.
Akbar was
passionate about empowering and improving the lives of his
fellow man. He worked tirelessly on his life-long
ambition, which was to provide for the less fortunate.
Thus, Akbar was responsible for sending many containers full
of food, furniture, toys, books, medical supplies and
equipment to the Caribbean and Africa. He especially
devoted a lot of time and resources to improving and
empowering the lives of his fellowmen in the island nation
of his birth, Jamaica.
Amir Abdullah
Mohammed Abdul-Akbar was honored for his good and charitable
works by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon. Bruce Golding,
who bestowed upon Amir Akbar the Order of Jamaica, to be
officially awarded on Heroes’ Day in October, 2008.
Amir Akbar was
adored and loved by countless many. Hence, he has
physically departed from us, but his spirit and his works
live on, thus he will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Service
will be scheduled. For information on this service call:
